Grosse Gewächs (GG) denotes the finest dry white wines of Germany from the best sites as determined by a group of the country’s top producers. For Dr. Loosen, these sites are situated on steep, south facing slopes along the river allowing for even ripening that results in wines of great fruit concentration and fresh acidity. Grapes from up to 130-year-old vines are hand harvested, and selected, for a limited yield of 50hl per hectare.
Inspired by his great-grandfather, Riesling legend Ernst Loosen implemented techniques of spontaneous fermentation in wood and aging under lees without battonage for all of his dry white wines. The GG wines are aged under full lees for a minimum of 24 months then held for another 1-3 years in bottle prior to release. The result of these techniques may surprise some drinkers as they appear delicate and finessed as opposed to oxidative.
Whether you're a Riesling aficionado or simply looking for something special to treat yourself with, these Dr. Loosen GGs are befitting of your glass and your cellar.
