Marlobobo (based in Sande i Vestfold, Norway) produce small batch meads and melomels (meads made with fruit) which showcase different flavours & the use of barrels. Since 2018 these meadmakers have been producing some meads of incredible quality, and they are currently the Top ranked non-US brewery in the world and 4th overall with an average rating of 4.5/5 (this is including beer and mead!)

We managed to secure the largest allocation in Aus (but still not a huge volume) - shop now, who knows when these liquids will swam our shores again!

Aged between 11 and 22 months in a variety of oak barrels: Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Heaven Hill and Wild Turkey We've been waiting very patiently for these barrels to turn into gold, and the blended end product is thoughtfully selected and showcases a complex composition of comprehensive malt bills, barrels from different producers of high quality bourbon and long maturation times. We let this particular blend condition on a whopping 2,5 g/L of high quality Ugandan vanilla beans to amplify the creamy, caramel- and chocolate notes already present in the beer, while also lending some fluffy marshmallowy characteristics. The aroma leaves no doubt that this beer has spent some quality time with oak and vanilla beans. Deep, caramelly notes unlocked from deep inside the wood and the malt utilized covers the palate. Melding into dark, creamy chocolate notes before bourbon fudge batter and marshmallow fluff lingers forever. The textural change of the barrel-aging adds an amazingly soft and silky mouthfeel. The cognac soaked wood adds notes of wood, violets, roses and cinnamon, together with vinous notes of dried wine grapes and dates to the bright and fresh cherry mead. Spontaneously fermented and terroir-driven cherry mead made with Stevnsbær. No added water or yeast (solely fermented from the yeast and bacteria naturally present on the cherries). The product was made in multiple small batches, produced with different techniques, and later blended together in well-thought-out ratios based on taste, getting the best out of all the "band players": For this vintage, the main blending thread went through a normal spontaneous maceration with 11 days of skin contact, before only the free-run juice was collected (no pressing). This was blended with two other smaller threads, an extended macerated (60 days skin contact) and a semi-carbonic macerated thread. To respectively add a deeper structure of tannins and complexity, and a very vibrant, fresh and perfumy cherry character. In terms of labour, this mead has kept us up all night. Some of the fruit were freeze-concentrated to remove some of its water content and hit you in the face with flavor concentration. The honey portion couldn't be any worse, so to complexify, the wildflower honey got backed up by heather honey that we caramelized. After fermentation, we drove to our friends at Oslo Håndverksdestilleri and picked up their most fragrant, recently emptied, aquavit barrel. Extremely dense and coating mouthfeel, with a deep, almost on the edge of abrasive, acidity. Fresh and ripe — but tannic — raspberries and blackberries, kept in check by sweet wildflower honey, remindful of a flowering meadow. Followed by lingering flavors of caramel, camphor and light herbal notes from the caramelized heather honey and aquavit barrel. Blackberries are one of our favorite berries to work with, and since we found a Norwegian fruit farmer of high quality blackberries in 2021, we've been totally sold. Since then, we have continually been trying to improve and tweak our blackberry fermentations to retain as much of the fresh fruit flavor as possible. We think we hit the nail on the head with this one, and gave it a rest in a gin barrel for 7 months to enhance the flavor experience and add a bright note. Blackberries + gin = magic The mead is first and foremost a thick and velvety concoction of fresh, jammy blackberries and honey. But giving it some time, an enticing aroma and flavor of juniper, spruce tips and floral, citrusy botanicals emerges and lingers forever with the two main components. Incredibly smooth, with a slightly drying finish reminiscent of gin and juniper. Hopefully still paying respect to the great produce from Hauger Gård. Whole wild blueberries were put in a fermenter and closed off without any yeast added and purged with CO2. The weight of all the berries crushes the blueberries at the bottom of the tank, while the ones higher up remain whole. The crushed blueberries starts spontaneously fermenting and releasing CO2, giving anaerobic conditions inside the tank, which in turn causes the whole, intact blueberries to start an intracellular, enzymatic fermentation of the juice inside each single berry. This gives a wild blueberry mead with lighter and more rounded tannins, lighter color and increased fruitiness (compared to Norwalien Happiness, which is produced with skin contact and punchdowns).
