Pernot Pere & Fils - Gevrey-Chambertin 'Les Jeune Rois' 2023 750ml
"Taking over the family domaine in 2018, Pascal Pernot quickly gained respect and admiration as a top Gevrey-Chambertin producer. Pascal’s great grandfather was chauffeur to the Liégard family of the Château de Brochon and subsequently inherited some vineyards. The Domaine was established in 1900, with Pascal as the fourth generation, and surrounds the village of Brochon with a total of 7 ha. This single-plot wine comes from a plot of old vines, over 80 years old, rooted in a stony terroir.
Grapes are destemmed and fermentation is with natural yeasts for a minimum of two weeks – possibly longer. The wines are aged for 18 months on fine lees worked in oak barrels (30% new barrels, 30% barrels from 1 wine, 30% barrels over 3 years old). 36-month drying barrels whose wood comes from Allier and Vosges oak." - Clos Cachet (Importer)
"91 points. Pascal pulled out half after 2023 so as to be able to replant in a better organised fashion. All destemmed, and aged in wood from the forest of Jupille. Deep dark purple. The nose has a little stewed plum, Rich sultry fruit, very dark raspberry, but opens out a little more at the back. Quite a powerful expression. Black cherries to finish, though not overdone. In the end, the juicier of the two single vineyard wines. Drink from 2028-2033." - Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy)
