John Duval - Annexus Shiraz 2022 750ml

"Single vineyard Shiraz from the Chapman family, grown on the famed Kalimna sands.

'The first Annexus was borne in 2013 when we got access to an amazing 1858 planted grenache vineyard in Eden Valley. In 2016 we introduced an Annexus Mataro and finally, completing the deconstruction of our Plexus SGM, an Annexus Shiraz in 2021. Each vintage we aim to highlight a different, exceptional single parcel of Shiraz to showcase the amazing sites we have access to in our home, the Barossa.  

The 2022 vintage was set up beautifully with good soil moisture carrying over from the mild 2021 vintage. A significant October hail event reduced yields in some vineyards, but luckily most escaped without impacting quality. La Nina influenced weather patterns resulted in mild harvest conditions again, allowing for even flavour accumulation and vibrant aromatics and acidity. A standout season.  

NOSE: Spiced dark plums, chocolate, sage and sandalwood.  

PALATE: Layers of bright mulberry mixed with rich, flowing dark fruits and hints of ironstone. Silty and grainy tannin provides the framework to match the fruit layers, with a finish of impact and length. " - John Duval
