Plantagenet - Wyjup Riesling 2024 750ml
"VINTAGE: 8/10: A significantly early harvest (four weeks ahead of average) was driven by a warm, dry spring and summer. Early frosts and late heat spikes caused some crop and sun damage, especially in Riesling and Chardonnay, reducing yields by 20-30% in some blocks. Despite challenges, white varietals retained balanced acidity and quality has exceeded expectations.
WINEMAKING: Fruit was sourced from single-cordon vines in the South Block, harvested in the cool early morning and hand sorted. Only the first free-run (200L/tonne) juice was retained with no pressings used to avoid phenolic bitterness. Cold settled and racked to stainless steel for a long, cool ferment using VL1 yeast (selected for aromatic development and low VA potential) to increase flavour complexity.
Appearance: Very pale gold.
Aroma: Classic Mount Barker aromas of rose petal, musk perfume and a core of citrus.
Palate: A finessed and pure expression of Riesling. Intense citrus and apple flavours glide over the palate. Powerful length and persistence with a fine-boned structure." - Plantagenet
