{ "available": "false", "body_html": ""Handmade – Gently pressed – Natural wild yeast ferment – Hand plunged – Partial carbonic maceration 20% – Partial fermentation in Italian concrete tulip – No acid or enzymes added – Barrel aged on lees – Unfined Grapes for our Pinot Meunier were sourced from the Evans Vineyard in Myrrhee, which sits in a picturesque tributary valley of the main King River system. The vineyard was originally planted in the 1990s by visionary winemaker Peter Read, who realised that the climate and soils of the region were ideal for growing what were then unknown varieties. Today the site is owned by Peter and Suzanne Evans and managed by Dan Ebert. In the winery, we undertook two ferments with the fruit we secured from this single vineyard site. The first involved 80% of the fruit being gently destemmed but not crushed, as to keep as many whole berries as possible. We then sent this portion to our 2,200L Italian Nico Velo concrete tulip, where we undertook a 24-hour cold soak before allowing wild fermentation to commence. The wine was gently hand plunged daily and saw a 12-day maceration, ultimately producing a wine with beautiful slatey tannin and nice concentration. The second ferment involved putting the remaining 20% in two half-tonne picking bins, which we then covered in CO2 and sealed to allow carbonic maceration to take place. The two bins were moved into the sun daily with dry ice added. After five days, we undertook pittage and subsequently hand plunged daily until day 12 when we gently basket pressed directly to seasoned French oak. The result was a lightly coloured but fantastically lifted wine; a near perfect component in itself and a perfect partner for our other ferment. Both batches enjoyed seven months maturation on full gross lees in oak. They work harmoniously together to create a delicate, fine and very pretty Pinot Meunier. It’s not often that you see this varietal as a still table wine, but we believe it has great potential in Victoria’s north east, especially as the climate continues to warm." -Nomads Garden Vegan friendly.
