It's the trade term for the colour of the finest rubies, invariably from the Mogok Stone Tract in Myanmar. The precious grapes for this fragrant and deeply coloured wine were grown far to the south-east, in South Australia's Barossa Valley.</em></p> <p><em>For wine nerds like me: Good winter rains and average spring temperatures led into a warm January. Temperatures were erratic thereafter and final ripening languished into March, hadn-picked on 5th March, all destemmed to open fermenter. Wild ferment, pressed to French oak (20% new), 18 months maturation in barrel.
