{ "available": "false", "body_html": "<p><em>Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin is a wine that has rightfully earned its place among the most highly acclaimed wines in the world. Made only in top vintages, this wine is a Mourvèdre dominant blend sourced from low-yielding old vines. It possesses immense capacity to age and is deeply concentrated and powerful.</em></p> <p><em>The wine was first produced in 1989 as a tribute to Jacques Perrin, who died in 1978. The Perrin family has been making wine in the Rhône Valley for five generations and owns some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region. Atypical for Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Hommage is a blend of 75% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 10% Grenache, and 5% Counoise.</em></p> <p><em>The 2020 Hommage a Jacques Perrin is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a lot of swirling to unlock its many nuances. The nose is enveloping with super-ripe orange, pomegranate, and cigar leaf that’s still very youthful and needs time to reveal its myriad nuances. There are also notes of licorice, dried herbs, and rose petals.</em></p> <p><em>On the expansive palate, the wine shows enormous concentration, silkiness, and finesse. The taut, rounded tannins texture the densely laden black fruits and savory layers, delivering great freshness and loads of earthy layers on the finish of this beautiful wine. The finish gets finer, the closer it gets to infinity. While drinkable now, it is best from 2025.</em></p> <p><em>The wine is fermented in tronconic wooden vats using natural yeasts after a brief cold maceration, with regular punching down. Beaucastel's farming has been certified organic since 1966, and the vineyards have been farmed along biodynamic principles since 1974 (although not certified as such). The family doesn't actively promote this, but it's worth noting their commitment to sustainable farming practices.</em></p> <p><em>The cellars at Beaucastel were a bit dusty when James Suckling visited, as the long-awaited expansion had just gotten underway. Built using the latest practices in sustainability and conservation, it's expected to be completed in 2024. The 2021 Syrah had just been picked, and the expectation was that the Grenache would be harvested beginning the following day.</em></p> <p><em>The 2020 Hommage a Jacques Perrin is a classic, compact and fresh style of Hommage, with great energy, plus endless length and depth. It is simply stupendous and not to be missed by serious collectors.
