"body_html": "<p>The Gripa family have been winemakers since the 1600s in the village of Mauves and Tournon along the western bank of the Northern Rhone. It wasn’t until 1974 that the Domaine bottled its own vintage under the direction of Bernard Gripa. Bernard now chooses to spend most his time in the vines with his son, Fabrice, stepping into the role of winemaker since 1997 after gaining experience around the globe including at Margaret River’s Leewin Estate.</p>
<p>The terraced vineyards span 16 hectares across steep slopes in the appellations of Saint-Peray (clay & limestone) and Saint-Joseph (granite), ranging between 150-250m altitude in the region’s continental climate. Split almost evenly between red and white, the vines have an average age of 65 years with some vines close to 80 years old. With the slopes being too steep for machinery, all the vineyards are tended to by hand and, since Fabrice’s involvement, organically farmed.</p>
<p>In Saint-Peray, Marsanne and Roussanne are anomalies in an appellation dominated by red varietals. From here Gripa has produced “three different cuvées [that] are right up amongst the finest whites in the region” (vinetrail.co.uk), including the <em>Les Figuiers</em>, a wine of Saint-Peray’s best plots.</p>
