A West Coast IPA inspired by the beers that made us fall in love with hops!
A few weeks ago, the Carwyn team headed towards the Yarra Valley to meet up with the Hop Hen brew team for this exciting new project! The Carwyn team participated heavily during the brew day (and got a good workout in the process) to make this beer, which is based on one of Hop Hen’s and Carwyn’s favourite beer styles.
Inspired by the California Ranges and with a good dose of hops in this malty and dank IPA reminiscent of the Old-School IPAs that made us fall in love with hops years ago. 'Free Range' has a chewy malt backbone and is packed with an assortment of different hops including Old-school classics Chinook & Simcoe and also a few not that well know by everyone like Apollo and Sultana. The beer pours amber in colour with lashes of pine, red and citrus fruit. Light charred pineapple, rosewater and resinous flavour, with a drying and lingering bitterness. It’s a bold beer but egg-stremely easy-drinking.

Hop Hen x Carwyn Cellars 'Free Range' WC IPA
A collaboration between Hop Hen Brewing and Carwyn Cellars, this is an homage to our shared love of the classic American West Coast IPA. Proper piney bitterness from Chinook and Simcoe is paired with dank citrus aromas from Sultana and Apollo, all on a rich Maris Otter backbone. Tastes like freedom.
