An Oaked Barleywine/Dark Ale Blend blended exclusively for Forward Hops in Australia.
First off, it's all about the beer. This little bottle contains triple-oaked A Deal with the Devil, blended with a double-oaked, double dark ale brewed specially for the project. It’s decadent and layered, with all the complexity you'd expect from an oaked Anchorage brew - and it's incredibly limited. Purely based on this, The Handover was poised to be highly sought.
But throw in the tumultuous backstory and there's no doubt this beer will be part of industry folklore for years to come. Brewed to commemorate the sale of Forward Hops to Fox Friday, with the latter going into voluntary administration while the beer was crossing the pacific, this has instead turned into a reminder that things don't always go to plan!

This beer is a blend of triple oaked A Deal With The Devil, and our double oaked dark ale. Aged 31 months in a blend of Elijah Craig 30 Year, Calumet Farms 15 Year 1792, Elijah Craig 8 Year, Willett Rye, and Heaven Hill 15 Year bourbon barrels. All blended exclusively for Forward Hops here in Australia.
TASTING NOTES
As soon as you inhale the rich and sweet aromas you realize that this beer means business. Chocolate covered coffee beans, raisins, dates, toffee and American whiskey. It evolves and continues changing.
In mouth it's unctuous and slick, with a big burst of prunes, blackcurrant and dark caramel quickly followed by an assertive roast character that mildly dries the palate and brings balance. This balance provides drinkability and a less sweet finish on this massive brew.
The finish is rich and slightly boozy and the bourbon plays its part and complements. Honestly what a ride that was, certainly one of the most complex and perhaps best dark ales we've ever tried at Carwyn.
