🍺 American Oak BA Blended Barleywine⁠ • 🥴 14.3% ABV⁠

This cask showcases everything we love about barleywines: richness, maillard-derived flavours, dark fruit, and a big body. Notes of cake and toasted cornbread, with sarsaparrilla, raisins & prunes. The finish carries on and on, going from caramel, to toffee, to butterscotch and treacle. The history of this barrel really shows, and it’s probably at its peak.

🍺 Imperial Pastry Stout⁠ • 🥴 13.8% ABV⁠

The ginger is prominent from the moment you crack open the can. Massive ginger, backed up by notes of chocolate syrup and light roast. Feels like a foodie trip around Europe tasting Pfeffernüsse and Pepernoot. Somehow it also keeps on reminding us of different sodas such as vanilla coke postmix & ginger ale. Delicious and strangely nostalgic.

🍺 BBA Belgian Dark Strong⁠ • 🥴 10.0% ABV⁠

What a delicate but flavour packed beer. The Belgian esters and deep toast character gives us notes of Banana Bread, backed up by a light (but very welcome) bourbon character. Slightly spicy with notes of cinnamon and toasted coconut. Finishes dry, with an enjoyable oaky aftertaste. “It’s a fairytale beer isn’t it?”

🍺 Pastry Stout⁠ • 🥴 9.0% ABV⁠

Big notes of Italian espresso, with herbal undertones. The breakfast vibes are real with a nice toast malt flavour, light roast and some hints of maple. Medium bodied and quite easy drinking for such a big beer.

🍺 BBA Imperial Stout w/ Cacao & Vanilla⁠ • 🥴 13.5% ABV⁠

The Bourbon comes through exquisitely, and the adjuncts are very well integrated. The pastry notes resemble Pancakes, Dulce de Leche & Salted Caramel Brownie. The beer is rich and unctuous, with a nice warming feel to it.

🍺 BBA Imperial Stout⁠ • 🥴 12.3% ABV⁠

An absolute barrel display. The blend of the different selected barrels brings massive notes of bourbon, burnt caramel, rich toffee, brownie & coffee cake. It has a roasty bitter finish with a lingering vanilla aftertaste. Pretty big beer, with layers and layers of flavour.

🍺 Black IIIPA⁠ • 🥴 11.1% ABV⁠

Wow! Massive hop aroma on this one. Dried tangerines, roasted papaya, light aniseed & cacao. Full-bodied, with notes of toffee & Malteasers, it has a solid resinous but also fruity aftertaste. It’s like a fruit salad with chocolate sauce (love a chocolate fondue fountain!). Perfect malt level to balance that bitterness.

🍺 Pastry Stout • 🥴 7.8% ABV⁠

Dark chocolate with freeze-dried raspberries and light roast. As it warms up the spice kicks in and we feel transported to having a raspberry filled cinnamon donut in a cozy morning alongside a mocha, YUM! A creamy mouthfeel and well-balanced bitterness makes this beer the perfect delicacy to get this week started.

🍺 Dortmunter Historical Ale⁠ • 🥴 9.0% ABV⁠

This traditional Ale, brewed with oak-smoked wheat is something completely different! Flavours like banana lollies & Cotties chocolate topping. Fruity with cooked apple and plum-like character, but with jerky undertones. The light smoke character works very well and does not clash at all. Finally, a light acidity balances the palate. Really good drinkability for such complex and bold flavours.

🍺 Barleywine⁠ • 🥴 16.0% ABV⁠

Massive beer, certainly leaning towards the English Barleywine style. Notes of banana & golden syrup with deep undertones of dried fruit such as sultanas & dried apricots. The beer kind of reminds us of a dessert wine, with its characteristic unctuous texture and a light oxidative note.

🍺 Raspberry Lamington Imperial Stout⁠⁠ • 🥴 9.6% ABV⁠

Feels like we’ve just walked straight into a confectionery shop! Massive aromas of candy like musk sticks, red raspberry lollies and Turkish delight. Behind the fruity flavours there’s notes of chocolate and freshly grated coconut. An absolute raspberry bomb!

🍺 Pastry BBA Quad & Rum BA Imperial Stout Blend • 🥴 14.0% ABV⁠

A single whiff and we can’t help but smile. We’re in for a treat. Roasted macadamias, s’mores, flambé bananas & maple syrup on the nose. The aromas translate perfectly into the mouth with rich nuttiness, burnt Basque cheesecake and chocolate cookie character. Full bodied and absolutely delicious. A unique beer that certainly hits all the notes.

Our very first Black Box! We gave 12 of the best dark beer producers in Aus free rein to go absolutely nuts and create a custom dark beer for this box. With an average box rating of 4.09 on untappd, we think they nailed it!
