Uccelliera - Brunello di Montalcino Reserva 2016 750ml
"Uccelliera is the name of an old homestead laid on the hillslope of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, overlooking the ancient volcano of Mount Amiata. Some Middle Age papers report of the existence of this place, called Uccelliera (aviary), near Sant' Antimo Abbey and the alabaster quarries, attributing the origin of its name to the use of raptors for hunting. Andrea Cortonesi is the only son of a family of sharecroppers and has been working in the vineyards and in all the related activities of the farm since his childhood, when he started helping his father.
Wine produced with selected sangiovese grapes from Brunello di Montalcino designated vineyards of approximately 7 hectares planted in 1975/1988/1998/2000 in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, south-east of Montalcino at an altitude that varies from from 150 (492 ft) to 350 (1150 ft) meters a.s.l. The soil is of medium consistency, calcareous-clayey with presence of sands and marl, rich in minerals and skeleton.
The 2018 vintage winter and spring months were characterised by an alternation of slightly rainy and sunny days, providing cool and humid conditions during the spring time. The season progressed with a quite hot and dry summer with a significant diurnal temperature variation from the month of August. Sangiovese, a late ripening grape, benefited from the rainfalls of mid-September, from the following good weather conditions and the diurnal temperature variation. The phenolic ripening of the grapes allowed an excellent colour extraction with smooth and elegant tannins." - Uccelliera
