Thanks to its reliance on a high proportion of Merlot, the wine is soft and gentle, with a delicious, silky texture. Exhibiting a more high-spirited elegance yet nonetheless showing remarkable length, Fleur de Pédesclaux is a delight. In the mouth, it is fresh, subtle, packed with fruit and beautifully smooth tannins, with a long finish. We popped open a cheeky bottle for "quality control" purposes – it's absolutely singing and just what we would expect from class Bordeaux! Think cassis, cigar box and dried sage with really nice oak on the nose. On the palate, this is classic mid-weight claret (Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend) with beautiful balance and fine-grained tannins. This would actually make a cracking pizza wine or would stand up to any number of rich French dishes. We’re calling it; this might be the best $20 bottle of wine you ever drink – buy this wine by the crate and load up that wine rack folks!
