King River x Carwyn Cellars 'Rauchbier Märzen' Collab

Earlier this year we received a message by our friends from King River Brewing, asking us if we were interested in doing another collab beer for Oktoberfest, building on the success of the tasty Dortmunder (or DortMUNTer) Export beer we launched in 2023, and we simply could not say no! This year we settled on a very different style of lager: A Rauchbier Märzen, based on the traditionally smoky & popular beers made famously in Bamberg, Germany.

For this collaboration our founder Ben Carwyn travelled to the high country on a cold winter morning to visit our dear friends at King River for a day focused on beers and food! The date was June 28th, to give this beer the extended lagering and conditioning it required (and deserved) before the launch date in early October.

The result is this amazingly thirst-quenching but savoury treat brewed with High Country water, German beech smoked malt & Australian malts.

“Breadcrust and light caramel malt sweetness followed by a hint of smoked ham and Lapsang Souchong tea. The bitterness is restrained and allows the sweetness and savoury character to play. Finishes off-dry with lingering smokiness. Light and refreshing, a beer that would make an absolutely banging food pairing with multiple meats and sausages”.

The official launch date was October 5th, for the Carwyn Oktoberfest event with Nathan Munt from King River joining us for the special occasion! A day full of oompah, steins, competitions and food! Perfect day for a few Rauchs!
