Good Land - Trillion$ | Black Box 2024

In a box full of unapologetically big, boozy & dark beers, choosing the day 12 brew for a massive Black Box grand finale is always a challenge (in the best way). This year, we enlisted our friends Jimmy & Jesse at Good Land to produce something with an absolute explosion of flavour and depth – say hello to Trillion$.

After making the trek to Traralgon, this was a collaborative brew day with The Coolroom Podcast and team Carwyn Cellars – and we sure were put to work! Hand blitzing vanilla pods, toasting coconut and macadamias (which were hard to not snack on while brewing), and torching boxes of bourbon spritzed bananas were all part of the day. Throw in a healthy serve of lactose and this beer gives some of the heavily adjuncted stouts from the US a run for their money.

But it’s not just adjuncts bringing the depth of flavour. Combining an imperial stout aged in BRIX rum barrels with a bourbon barrel aged Belgian quad (on its own, this beer was like liquid banoffee!) made an incredibly rich platform to build on. We can assure you, the aroma in the brewery on that day was absolutely phenomenal.

Chopping, blitzing, spritzing and peeling is all very hard work. All this was fuelled with a sneak peek of Canyon Dust DDH Hazy IPA fresh out the tank and a buckload of wings & pizza. Seriously, make Good Land a stop the next time you're exploring the Gippsland region.

CARWYN CELLARS TASTING NOTES
A single whiff and we can’t help but smile. We’re in for a treat. Roasted macadamias, s’mores, flambé bananas & maple syrup on the nose. The aromas translate perfectly into the mouth with rich nuttiness, burnt Basque cheesecake and chocolate cookie character. Full bodied and absolutely delicious. A unique beer that certainly hits all the notes. ⁠
