Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival 2018
Glen Scotia produced a limited edition single malt for the 2018 Campbeltown Malts Festival, finished in Ruby Port casks and bottled at cask strength, weighing in at [a very approachable] 57.8% alc/vol. Distilled in 2008, the whisky has a thick mouthfeel, filled out with a smouldering peat that adds depth and intensity without taking over. On top of that is a medley of heather, bright citrus and red fruit, and a toasty-oaky vanilla character that adds a comfy touch. The finish is a long, sweet bedtime story with a little pepper spice to keep up the tingle. On the Carwyn Cellars Time of Day to Drink the Dram scale, this is a whisky that will console your bones after a long, hard day. Experimentation to see whether it works in a preemptive capacity is yet lacking.
